Welcome to Colegio Bicentenario de Excelencia Adenauer
The goal of the language or reading competence preparation course, led by teacher Ms Yasmin Sepulveda at Colegio Bicentenario Adenauer, is to prepare students for the Higher Education Access Test (PAES) in Reading Competence. This test is crucial as it is compulsory for entry to any university or degree, and it assesses students' ability to apply specific skills to literary and non-literary texts.
In this context, it is essential for students to prepare thoroughly for the Reading Competence PAES. Here are some additional suggestions focused on the test's objectives:
Familiarity with text types: Students should be exposed to a variety of literary and non-literary texts, including essays, newspaper articles, poems and narratives, among others. It is important that they can recognise and understand the different genres they may find in the PAES.
Practice locating and extracting information: Students should practise finding specific information in a text. This includes identifying key words, relevant phrases or important details that may be asked about in multiple-choice or open-answer questions.
Developing interpretation skills: Students should learn to interpret the meaning and purpose of a text and to identify elements such as tone, the author's intention and the perspectives presented. This will help them answer questions that require understanding the intention behind a text.
Practising critical evaluation: Students should be prepared to assess the quality and credibility of the information in the texts. This includes identifying bias, evaluating the validity of arguments and telling facts from opinions.
Analysing text structure and organisation: Students should be able to identify the structure and organisation of a text, including the sequence of ideas, the structure of the argument and the relationship between sections.
Vocabulary comprehension exercises: Understanding vocabulary is essential for understanding complex texts. Students should work on expanding their vocabulary and understanding less common words they may find in the test.
Practice tests: Taking mock Reading Competence PAES tests under conditions similar to the real exam will help students become familiar with the format and develop effective time-management strategies.
By following these suggestions and working consistently and with focus, students will be well prepared to take the Higher Education Access Test (PAES) in Reading Competence and achieve their educational goals.
