About the 2021 School Integration Programme (PIE)

Welcome to the Skills Workshop (PIE)

The Skills Workshop or School Integration Programme (PIE) is an inclusive strategy of the education system. The department was created out of need in 2012 to contribute to the ongoing improvement of education quality, supporting learning in the classroom and the participation of every student, especially those with special educational needs (NEE).

Changing the name from PIE to “Skills Workshop” has improved the impact of the name in the school community and how participants and their classmates receive it. It is a set of resources and support that translates in the classroom into diversified teaching strategies, specialised staff, teacher training and educational materials suited to students' needs. All this support must focus on teaching and learning, within the national curriculum and the flexibility and diversification that some students may need during their school career.

Given the national situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it seeks to uphold students' right to education under their curriculum and study plan, supporting their teaching and learning process in a respectful and inclusive way according to each student's special educational needs, while also responding to the health situation so that this process is carried out safely.

For this reason, a safe return plan to the School Integration Programme is being carried out, covering assessment, intervention, coordination and family support, among others, in compliance with health regulations.

The plan has a remote mode (phase 1: quarantine) and an in-person mode (phase 2: transition or higher), depending on the Paso a Paso phase of our municipality of Melipeuco, in order to support our students' teaching and learning throughout the school year.

The department has a shared room for special education and administration, a speech therapy room, a psychology room and a social work room, among which in-person student care will be distributed to comply with permitted capacity.

Our team

Colegio Bicentenario de Excelencia Adenauer provides education that embraces diversity and develops students as whole people, with active, participatory and up-to-date methods. Its specialist team currently includes 1 coordinator, 5 special education teachers, 1 primary school teacher with a postgraduate qualification in School Integration, 1 psychologist, 1 social worker, 1 speech therapist and 1 higher-level technician in Special Education. It integrates students with permanent (NEEP) and transitory (NEET) special educational needs, who are supported in the regular classroom and the resource room. Together with the classroom teacher, it creates curricular adaptations and teaching and learning strategies, such as using concrete materials, worksheets and final feedback on each topic, constantly monitoring and mediating students' learning.

The team is based on collaborative, dynamic work carried out gradually according to each student's abilities. One of the main goals of the “Skills Workshop” is: “To offer each child as many opportunities as possible to reach the fullest development of their personal, emotional, intellectual and social abilities, designing diversified strategies for lesson plans and learning assessment so that all students take part, learn and feel valued”.
