In 2004 the company Sociedad Educacional Hermanos Toro Ltda. was founded, a necessary step towards what would become an educational project that changed the history of Melipeuco.

Colegio Adenauer was founded in 2007 on the initiative of Pedro Toro Montecinos, a Chilean-German citizen, and Miguel Ibar Leighton, who wanted to create a quality educational institution for the children of Melipeuco.

The name “ADENAUER” refers to Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967), the first democratically elected chancellor in Germany after the Second World War, and above all to the great educational work carried out in his country.

Colegio Adenauer was built with great sacrifice and its own capital, starting with 4 classrooms for first to fourth grade and one room for early childhood education.

In early 2010, Sociedad Educacional Hermanos Toro became Sociedad Educacional Toro S.A., which a group of young people joined alongside Pedro Toro, interested in creating a bilingual educational project teaching English and opening up new possibilities for an education better suited to today's world. They took over the running of the school and began working to grow this tremendous educational project.

From 2010 to 2013 the school grew in educational levels, infrastructure and programmes to advance its future. The School Integration Programme (PIE) was created, along with the Hospitality Services programme, today one of the school's hallmarks and the first and only technical programme in the municipality.

In early 2014 the school suffered a fire that destroyed more than 80% of its infrastructure and materials. This affected the whole municipality, as many people's dreams were dashed on seeing all that effort turned to ashes.

In 2016, under the law ending for-profit education, the company became a non-profit corporation. On 1 March of that year the “Corporación Educacional Educar Sonrisas” began operating as the current legal owner of Colegio Adenauer, making it possible to apply to various foundations and government institutions for projects.

In 2020, after several project applications, Colegio Adenauer of Melipeuco was awarded the Liceos Bicentenario project, under the name Colegio Bicentenario de Excelencia Adenauer. With this it seeks to reach, in the coming years, the educational standards for an even better future.
